Throw that dictionary away.

Salam to all.

Part of studying physics is to know the definition of its terms. So we have acceleration, which means delta velocity over delta time. Velocity, delta displacement over delta time. And displacement is not necessarily equals to distance.

Defining physics terms has become a critical part of understanding the subject as a whole. You need to know what 'vector quantity' means to explain why an object moving in a constant speed in a circular motion has acceleration. Lets leave physics behind and proceed to my main point, shall we?

Why not we modify the statement above into 'Defining life terms has become a critical part of understanding life as a whole'.

What do you think of that?
