A little something to share...

This was my favourite bedtime song when I was a kid. You can hear it too. I have put it under 'Listen To This'. It took me ages to finally hear this nasheed again. There are a lot of version to this nasheed but Yusuf Islam's version is the best and the closest one to the one I used to hear twelve years ago... So enjoy! I know you guys will love it too.... Oh yeah, thanks to justsomelyrics.com.

YUSUF ISLAM TALAA AL BADRA ALAYNA LYRICS

Tala'al-Badru 'alayna,
min thaniyyatil-Wada'
wajaba al-shukru 'alayna,
ma da'a lillahi da'

O the White Moon rose over us
From the Valley of Wada'
And we owe it to show gratefulness
Where the call is to Allah

Ayyuha al-mab'uthu fina
ji'ta bi-al-amri al-muta'
Ji'ta sharrafta al-Madinah
marhaban ya khayra da'

O you who were raised amongst us
coming with a work to be obeyed
You have brought to this city nobleness
Welcome! best call to God's way

Tala'al-Badru 'alayna,
min thaniyyatil-Wada'
wajaba al-shukru 'alayna,
ma da'a lillahi da'

Al-Fatihah.

Just want to let you guys know that my grandmother's brother had passed away yesterday of a motorcycle accident. May Allah place him alongside his faithful and blessed servants. I would greatly appreciate all of us read 'Al-Fatihah' for him. Thank you.

This incident brought back the memory of my late grandfather who died ten days after celebrating 2005's Eid Al-Fitri. It was totally unpredictable.

It was past 9 p.m that night. All of us were watching TV as usual. Laughing at the jokes and enjoying the show...

My mum's cell phone rang.

I was wondering who could be calling us at this hour?

My mom picked up the phone and went outside, to get better reception. She was talking with a serious note, as I glanced once in a while at her.

She then put her phone down and turned to us.

"Tok ayah pengsan." or in English, "Tok Ayah fainted" she said.

At that moment, my body froze. I couldn't stop but keep thinking of the worst... I always do that.. My heartbeat raced, I can feel my blood pressure rising. I wanted to ask my mom some questions, but it didn't come out.

My mom quickly called my dad who was on his way to KL that night. Over the phone, my father said he will be heading home soon and cancel his business trip.

My mother was silent. I was silent. Even my noisy brother was silent. It was as if we were stupefied. All of us looked at the floor, although there was nothing really to see...

All of a sudden, my mom's cell phone rang again.

This time, my grandfather had passed away.

That was the first time a relative that I am close with passed away. And as I am typing this, I can still recall that fateful night and that same feeling I had still hasn't changed. My heart is beating quite fast...

We went to my grandmother's home nearly an hour and a half later. We were joined by my uncle and his family who lived in Penang too.

I usually enjoyed travelling during the night, but that particular night was not one of it.

It made me realise how small we are. How we can't predict when we will be called to see the Lord. How little my deeds are and how much wrongdoings I have committed. But, as a normal human being, that feeling only lasted for some while....

Now, there's another one of my family members that had been called by Allah, the moment we least expected it. And I reflected my deeds and wrongdoings again... How little am I...

I hope I will become a better Muslimah each day, and I prayed the same to you. May we all implement the moral of this true story and improve our ibadah everyday.

Penang, The Well - Known Unknown Secret...

It is not wrong for me to say that Penang is the 'KL Of The North'. In fact, Penang has more advantages compared to KL... Why am I saying that? Let's see...

  1. Penang has Beaches.... I bet KL cannot beat Penang in this.. Wahahaha *that's my so-called evil laugh*
  2. The traffic jam in Penang is not as long as in KL.
  3. Penang is an Island..
  4. There are Durian Farms in Penang.. So, durian is cheaper in Penang.. Yeeha!
  5. We have a National Park in Penang.. The park was just officially launched early this year..
  6. No need to pay toll.. That's right.. I remembered going to KL last year and my, it was such a nuisance to pay toll like every 10 kilometers?? Although it wasn't me who paid for it, but still....
  7. Penangites can easily get fresh seafood, if they know where to find one.. I'll tell you more about this later.. So, keep visiting this page yeah?
  8. Cost of food is cheaper.. This is sooo true.. A plate of ordinary fried koay teow is RM 3.OO!! KL? Hmmmm...
  9. Lower crime rate?? I think so.. I guess we should KIV this first.. Wait till I've done my research...

So you see... Penang is a great place to live in.. I've been living here since July 1991 until now, and I'm really happy with it.. [Oh yeah, we need to minus the two years I've spent in Langkawi in boarding school... ]

You should come and visit Penang.. If you are planning to do so, it will be a great idea to check my blogsite again because I'm planning to reveal the Best Of Penang from my point of view. [Maybe I should host a TV show in Discovery Travel and Living Channel... Who knows if I am the next Samantha Brown...]

Why the Brain is SOOO cool..

I don't actually know when I started to love the human brain so much.. But lately, I can sense that my heart gives this jolly happy feeling whenever I saw documentaries or found an interesting article about it in the television or the in the web.
Why?

I can certainly answer that. Have you ever wondered how we can 'feel' emotions? How our brain stored data? How the data is retrieved? How we think? How do we see?

I mean, where on Earth do Ideas come from? How do we get inspired? In what way the brain is affected when we hear, see and smell?

Some of the answers to the above question are available nowadays through continuous research by scientists. But still, their answers and theories did not completely put an end to the questions. Instead, more questions are popped.

And that makes the brain so amazing and mysterious. It's great how Allah had created the human with a brain so special. Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah.

And when we look at ourselves, didn't we notice how cool our brains are?

We are born to this world without anything in our brain. That was a major misconception. In fact, scientists have proven that we are able to comprehend things even when we are in our mother's womb. We can recognise our mother's voice, can feel gentle strokes, and can even respond to music.

And once we're born, millions of nerve cells are making vital connections to one another every single second. These connection will determine how our brain will function in the future. As a baby, our brain is working at full throttle. That means that we are capable of learning anything easily. That's why scientist often said that a baby's brain is similar to a dry sponge that can absorb water with ease. However,as we get older, we, as normal human being, started to form a pattern in our daily activities, meaning, we begin to have routines.

For example, the part of the brain that is used for face recognition is utilised more frequently than let say, the mathematical skills part. [People normally would use a calculator to count rather than to use their mental capabilities..] As the frequency of usage and the connections between neurons increases for the face recognition section, its ability to perform increases tremendously compared to the mathematical skills part. There is a special term for this phenomenon but I kinda forget what it is....[talked about using less part in the brain for memorising..]

The conclusion, we must always exercise our brain everyday so that some of its vital functions will always be in good shape. No need to worry about our brain forgetting how to breathe though, our breathing mechanism is controlled by the involuntary part of our brain. You can only forget how to breathe when you're brain dead... or having a brain shutdown..[It sounded a bit polite..]

Some scientists said that human only use an average of 10% of the brain's full capacity. Some scientists said that we use our brain even less. We can't be sure about that, I think, I mean, it's way beyond our reach to know that. Or are we??

What is in your mind when you first read the title? Hmmm... Let me guess... You probably had thought it will be a recount of my family vacation... Or maybe a school trip to Langkawi... [haha..very funny..] Or it could be emmm... A dream holiday to New Zealand??

No! Huhuhu..

The once-in-a-lifetime holiday that I am referring to is NOW,NOW and NOW. Yeap, it started since 3.30 p.m. on the 26th of November 2007, right after Biology Paper Three of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and only God knows when it will end.

Why am I calling it 'The Holiday'? Well, simply put, I don't think I will have another holiday this long. Let me see, since 'The Great Escape' on that particular Monday, it has been 58 days of freedom. Until when and for how long?? I don't know... Do you??

Maybe it will end sometime in June perhaps, when I will insyaAllah start my Pre-U programme? I hope so.. And then, it'll be another two years of studying, studying and studying...

After that, [if I study hard enough, with excellent results in my hands..], InsyaAllah I will pursue
a degree in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. And that means only one thing... Another six crazy years of non-stop studying..

Later, comes the Internship. That will cost me my precious two years [minimum].. By then, I will be... urm.. let me count for a sec...

Now: 17 years old
Pre-U : 2 years
U: 6 years
Internship: 2 years
Working with government: Depends on current government policy...

Okay, if we didn't include the service for the government, [I'm clicking my mental calculator right now..] I will be a minimum of 27 years old by the time I have the qualification to practice doctoring...

And by then, with a 'Dr.' in front of my name, [ I pray and will try really hard so that this will come true..], will I be able to take loooong break from work? Of course not! In fact, to get a leave on Hari Raya is a one in a million chance... [Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but still, ask any doctor out there and they will tell you how difficult it is to get a holiday..]

So, back to the main point, what I'm trying to say is that, this nearly-six-month-break would be the last long holiday that I can imagine. You wouldn't want to count the university semester break as a holiday, would you? I mean, it's just for a few weeks... Plus the assignments and projects and stuffs... Do you really think we will have the time to enjoy life??

I'm not sure what you might think, but I can see that I'm being a pessimist right now... [taking a deep breath... exhaling....]

Okay, okay, be positive! Maybe I am right about not having the time we have now later in our life, but that shouldn't be the reason for us not to live life to the fullest. Every second that God give us is a present, to be cherished and filled with love and devotion to Him, and to be shared with everyone around us...

We have the power to choose how to spend our time, and it's up to us to determine our Quality of Life...

It is now 8.14 in the morning.
Date: 22nd January 2008.
Day : Tuesday
Place : In front of my desktop, in my parents room.
Activity : Typing words on the keyboard to form logical sentences....

Okay, let us see if there were any differences to any of the above, three months ago.... [apart from the date and day...]

It was 8.14 in the morning.
Date : 30th October 2007.
Day: Tuesday
Place: 504 a.k.a. Urayville
Activity: Finishing my physics Paper 1 Negeri Kedah... or maybe.. Discussing add maths with Haziq... or.. Fighting with 'Pak Aji' over a chemistry question...

Yeah, there was a major difference. Looking back, I used to complain about the burdening worksheets and handouts from various states we received almost everyday. [Luckily for me, the teacher didn't check if we were doing it or not, whoooho, which means I can skip a few of those trial papers.... I just did the ones that I like, mainly Physics Paper One, and Physics Paper One and Physics Paper One....]

But, I guess it's a blessing in disguise from Allah, I have these wonderful classmates and roommates that always finishes their trial papers within three days of getting them. Leading the 'Budak Rajin' team was Aizat. Why? Because he never takes a rest from studying... And I mean never!! I can tell that he burned the midnight oil every night because his eyes would look puffy every morning. And it was scary to see him studying in the class...

He would be holding his book, pencil or whatever very tightly, looking sooo deeply into the papers he was completing, and with a loud mp3 sticking out of his two ears. It was like as though he was in a trance or hypnotized.. And if he didn't understand something, he would go straight to his buddies or the teachers without a moment to lose..

One thing I will always remember about this KL-guy would be the time when he accompanied me during my Physics XYC session with my mentees. I couldn't thank him more for helping me explaining simple things about Physics. You know, sometimes you can get this fidgety feeling when conducting an XYC session.... and even the simplest of physics seemed SO hard to explain.. He was, is and will be my best guy-friend [not 'boyfriend' aahh, this guy got 'girlfriend' already.... aiya, I missed my chance again...][Oi, just kidding you know!!] =) I hope to see him again in a few years time, as an extraordinary aerospace engineer... I am confident you're gonna succeed my big bro!

The winner for the Most Rajin Girl of Urayville was very hard to determine because all of the girls were soooo rajin... Not just studying, but the whole meaning of rajin itself. They were rajin to iron their baju kurung [ I just wear them directly from the ampaian, I mean, who cares, right? It's not as though I have a boyfriend or somebody special..., but I definitely ironed my baju sekolah laa.. ], they were rajin to write notes,[Aina especially, and her notes were fabulous and colourful!] plus they were rajin to give me a treat, hehehehe... Thanks you guys, I mean girls..

But, I think the most rajin girl would be Aereena. Simply because she took 11 subjects... Accountancy and EST plus the basic nine subjects.. Can you imagine her taking Biology for two long and tiring years, only to realise her dream of becoming an accountant when she was in form five? Huh, I can't. Now, she is doing her Diploma In Accountancy in UiTM. Good Luck my friend... I'm sure the knowledge in Biology that you gained for that two years won't be a waste, right?

One thing unique about Aereena is that, she has this sweet kind of smile that would melt anyone's heart.. Seeing her smile would always brighten up my day. And I mean day only, because.... She would sleep early every night. Whenever I'm paying a visit to her room,[I'm not sure if it's TL5 or TL6..], looking for something to eat,[yeah, she always have something good to offer..], after lights-off, I would have turn back because she had dozed off into the wonderlands.... [sigh...]

However, I would never return home [ I mean my TL14 laa...], empty-handed or maybe empty-brained to be exact, as I would always spend some time looking at her notes-filled wall. Her colourful notes were neatly arranged, ranging from the Electrochemical Series to the Physics terminology [as Physics XYC, I'm soooo proud!] and some Bio stuff. I can really see her determination and strength in grabbing every bit of information and knowledge worth knowing, and I can't wait to see her in her office, managing her successful and ever-expanding accounting firm..

Okay, so you see, these two persons have made positive impact in my life. To be honest with you, they were the reasons I was doing my homework, [ not to say that I didn't do it Lillahitaala ], but their desire to study keeps burning my spirit to study too.. No words can describe my gratitude to Allah for giving me the chance to know these great and inspiring people and a lot more... I will tell you their tales in my other posts... Maybe I will tell a story about you? Who knows? Even I don't...

A new SAGA shall begin...

Salam. And a very good day to all...
Okay, I don't actually know what to say... This is my first post, you see...
But it won't stay that way this coming days.. Because I'm gonna write and I mean write looong posts... Hahahaha....[you will see a lot of those hahahaha stuff coz I just love to laugh...]...
Just keep visiting this humble site yeah!! You will never know what you will find...
And with 'Bismillahirrahmanirrahim', I officially launch my own blogspot, and A new SAGA shall begin...
