River Blindness (Onchocerciasis)
River Blindness, or onchocerciasis (On-kough-sir-KY-A-sis) is caused by a parasitic worm and is spread by the bite of an infected blackfly. Multiple infectious bites are necessary for a person to get the disease. Infected persons may not have symtpoms, but a skin rash, eye lesions and/or bumps under the skin can occur. Eye lesions can progress to blindness.
River Blindness is found in thirty African countries, in regions of six countries in the Americas, and Yemen. Most infected persons are in Africa, and the disease is found most frequently in rural agricultural villages that are located near rapidly flowing streams.
Obtained from: Centres for Disease Control and Prevention
I came to know about this through the prime time news. And I come to one conclusion:
In Africa, Allah tests its people with poverty, sickness and lack of everything.
In Malaysia, Allah tests us with prosperity, health and plenty of everything.
Both type of tests are not easy to endure.
And I will try to always remind myself that one day, Allah will ask me:
What have you done with all the prosperity, health and plenty of everything that I granted you?
To hear or to listen?

During the Newcastle interview, while I was rambling on and on in a desperate attempt to tackle a question.. I said, "I love meeting new people because I know everybody has a story to share and I believe that sometimes we just have to listen.."
I have to admit that at that particular time, it was something that I just blurted out *like I said, a desperate attempt to say something*
But as I reflect on myself (in a way to study for ESL's Creative writing~) I do find joy in listening. I can endure scolding from my mom, I enjoy attending talks and dialogues, and I can just listen to anybody or anything as long as it intrests me. Yeah, it's nothing much, I know.
But what I'm truly trying to say is "I believe that sometimes, we just have to listen".
And don't forget what Ms. Param said, "Why do you think we have two ears and just one mouth?"
